Things haven’t been going the way of Coco Gauff at the ongoing Italian Open. Her performances have often come under the scanner despite her wins. Such has been the unconvincing display that Gauff has put during this tournament. Recently, another controversial moment erupted during her match against Iga Swiatek.

Gauff was up against one of her biggest rivals in the last 4 clash in Rome. However, in what was a one-sided encounter, Swiatek comfortably defeated Gauff in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. What caught the eye of the tennis world was that Gauff wasn’t happy with the umpire for being partial toward Swiatek. During the mid-game interval, she even urged the umpire to call out Swiatek’s water breaks during her serve.

The American sensation was left frustrated with things not going her way during the match. Additionally, she was unhappy with Swiatek taking untimely water breaks and the umpire allowing it. As a result, she raised this issue with the chair umpire and expressed her disappointment for the partiality against her.

Meanwhile, it is the end of the road for Gauff at the Italian Open. Although she reached the last four, her performances across the tournament weren’t convincing, and she eventually succumbed to Swiatek. American legend Andy Roddick wasn’t too optimistic about Gauff’s chances against Swiatek, and his prediction was spot on.

The American legend is an active speaker in the tennis fraternity and often makes his feelings felt on various happenings in the tennis world. Before the match between Gauff and Swiatek, he pointed out why he would never bet on his compatriot to win against Swiatek on the clay court.

Roddick mentioned, “I certainly wouldn’t bet against Iga on Clay against anyone. At this moment the ask is difficult because Coco is gonna have to produce on her serve, right?”

Further, he went on to add, “She’s not going to be able to just roll those second serves in aim for the middle of the box, hope that it goes in and she’s not going to be able to serve 37% right her first serve looked great in her last match against Zheng. Coco sneaky been hitting her forehand about about as well as I’ve seen but it’s going to depend on the second serve.”
