When Billie Jean King shared her concern over clashing tournament schedules
King herself spoke about fair scheduling shortly before the WTA Finals, looking at the way players were skipping one tournament over another to participate in the other. According to the tennis.com press conference, she talked about resolving the scheduling issue and finding better ground for players.
She said, “We all need to get together and figure out a better calendar for the players and everybody knowing what’s going to happen, because you can’t start making these decisions, like on the WTA Finals, in October or … September.” She also emphasized how unfair it is to have conflicting tournament schedules because all of these details ought to have been known beforehand. However, despite these concerns, the organizers of the two tournaments stuck to their original schedules, which seems to be causing issues for the players who are participating in both of them.
