With her extensive tennis expertise, Venus Williams still continues to compete at a high level on the court. However, as she looks ahead to life after her playing career, the 44-year-old is eager to explore new roles within the sport. But will she be a coach? Well, the veteran recently expressed her thoughts on whether she would pick a coaching role or not post-retirement.

While talking to Vivian Tu, Your Rich BFF, Venus was asked if she would consider coaching after retirement, and she came up with a clear answer: “NO.” Her direct response left no room for any interpretation, as she shared her pointers on why she is not into taking a coaching position.

Venus said, “No. I don’t want to be in the sun. I’ve had too much sun. I’m surprised, I’m not a raisin now, like, just by the grace of God. And I’m impatient, so I can’t be that patient. I can’t travel to tournaments. I can’t wait on rain delays. I can’t wait for a five-setter to finish so we can get on the court. No, I won’t.”

However, Venus admitted that her perception may vary in the future, as she added, “But there might be some time 10 years from now that I’d say, ‘Okay, that might be fun to go back to the tournaments and occasionally go a few weeks a year.’ I could never be a full-time coach, though.”

Venus also stated that despite the fact that she would not be a coach, she would never be completely away from tennis. The veteran opened up on her retirement thoughts as well, stating how much it has been a struggle for her to phase out of the sport that has been a major part of her life.

Venus Williams opens up about her retirement thoughts

In response to a question whether, in her entire lifetime, she could ever think of quitting on anything, including tennis, Venus Williams replied, “Will I ever retire? I don’t think completely. I think there is so much fun to be had in life and work because challenge is a beautiful thing. Over time, I believe I’ll find new challenges, whether it’s teaching tennis to young players or serving as a mentor to professional athletes. There’s a lot of joy in that.

William made the remark in light of her approaching retirement from tennis and her wish to stay associated with the sport in some manner in the future. Venus Williams has only competed in two tournaments this year, which is the Indian Wells and the Miami Open, a few months ago. As disappointing as it may sound, Williams was eliminated in the preliminary stages of both events due to strong opposition.

But that’s not suggesting that she would be willing to bid farewell to tennis completely. However, when she retires, what do you think Venus will do post-retirement plans? Let us know in the comments below.
