The year 2002 was a historic one in the career of Serena Williams. After missing out on the Australian Open that season, the American legend went on to win the other three Grand Slam titles. Interestingly, it was the first time that Williams put her hands on the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships. Fast forward to 2024, the 42-year-old has retired from the sport as one of its greatest players with 24 major titles. Additionally, she also has four Olympic gold medals in her kitty. Now a businesswoman, Serena recently attended the INBOUND conference where she made a rather hilarious yet humble admission.
Hubspot organized a three-day dynamic conference, INBOUND from 18-20 September, where some renowned business professionals made their presence felt. The conference was dedicated to the latest trends in the industry, and tactics in marketing, sales, and AI. Serena Williams, who has ventured into the business world successfully, was one of the guests at the event there. She made a hilarious revelation there which went viral all over the internet.
While speaking at the conference, the American legend reminisced about her playing days and how she got to the top. However, when asked about what success meant to her, she asserted that winning titles isn’t the only definition of success. Williams revealed, “I don’t think you have to win Wimbledon or win a gold medal to be a champion, I mean….I did that too.” The room was filled with laughter as Williams boasted about her Wimbledon titles and Olympic gold medals with a subtle remark at the end.

While she continues to carve a niche for herself in the business world, Serena is also rumored to return to tennis in a coaching role, but if one of her past interviews is anything to go by, she might not be interested in that role.
Will Serena Williams be Coco Gauff’s next coach?
Earlier this month, Brad Gilbert ended his coaching stint with Coco Gauff after the latter’s string of poor performances. Although admitting that she has a bright future ahead, Gilbert wanted to explore other coaching roles and wished Gauff luck for the future. Amid this, several names have been doing the rounds as potential candidates to be Gauff’s next coach. Among them is Serena Williams.

However, the American legend once said that she has no intention to get back to tennis in any role, “Believe me, I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don’t think it’s fair… I don’t have the patience to teach tennis. I don’t really like to play with people who don’t know how to play tennis well. It drives me nuts. So, I was like, ‘I can’t. I don’t have the patience for this’. So I signed her up for a private class,” Serena said.
While Serena is enjoying her post-retirement life, Gauff is still on the hunt for a new coach. Who do you think will become Gauff’s next coach though? Let us know your views in the comments below.
