Is Coco Gauff's next coach the key to unlocking her full potential on the court?

Coco Gauff has stepped out of her partnership with Brad Gilbert. The American talent ended what was a successful stint with the coach –  having triumphed at the US Open in 2023 under his guidance. Gauff’s successes surprisingly turned turtle this season. With fans calling for an immediate change in her coaching team following her New York nightmare, we all saw this coming from a mile away. She is currently in the market hunting for a suitable replacement and luckily, Andy Roddick has chimed in to deliver his thoughts on her current situation.

Merely two weeks after suffering a “disappointing” end to her title defense at Flushing Meadows, wherein she lost to Emma Navarro in R4, Gauff parted ways with Gilbert. Getting knocked over due to fragility with her serve – having struck 19 double faults while dueling with Navarro, fans blasted the American coach for failing to rectify her dropped form. This wasn’t the first time.

Gauff could not reach a final since defending the Auckland title in January. After her semi-final run in the French Open, she couldn’t assert her dominance in any tournament she participated in, facing premature exits everywhere. Despite much hue and cry, a new coach may likely reinstate her formidable form. However, Roddick sees things in a different light.

While talking on the ‘Tennis Channel‘ podcast, the 2003 US Open champion was queried about the Coco Gauff situation and he was quick to opine that Gauff won’t hurriedly hire a new replacement. “I don’t think she would be in a rush to do anything because JC Farrell is in her corner and she’s comfortable there. I don’t think she’s going to be in a rush to fix it immediately,” Roddick said.

For those unaware, Gilbert announced the split via his X account saying, “Coco, at just 20 years young, your future is incredibly bright, and I wish you nothing but continued success ahead. I’m excited for the next chapter in my coaching career. Thanks to Coco and the entire team for an absolutely amazing summer run in 2023 and for 14 months of incredible team effort.”

Shortly after confirming her split with Brad Gilbert, Coco Gauff received a brand new coaching offer. This wasn’t the first time. Earlier, Nick Kyrgios had expressed his willingness to work with the American sensation. While the Aussie’s offer might not cut the deal for Gauff, a prominent coach might.

Naomi Osaka‘s ex-coach Sascha Bajin has offered his guidance to the 20-year-old. The German coach was in Osaka’s corner when she won two Grand Slam titles – namely the 2018 US Open and the 2019 Australian Open. And now Bajin has presented his offer to Gauff via Instagram, as he commented on a reel wherein potential coaching candidates for Gauff were discussed. “I’m ready. They just need to call,” Bajin wrote.

In summary, the former World No. 2 will have to sign a new coach. After a disheartening conclusion to the American hardcourt swing, Gauff will be eager to prevail over her underwhelming results, moving forward. After all, the American pro’s peak form is missed by many fans!
