“Don’t Stoop to Their Level”: Starkly Differing From Sister, Serena Williams Venus Williams Dishes Out Great Advice to Dealing With Difficult Individuals

Being a professional player on tour is a challenging period for many reasons. Traveling and dealing with rowdy fans can become quite hectic. However, an opponent being disrespectful can make matters worse. Venus Williams has played on top for more than 20 years, and she has faced disrespect often. She recently advised her followers on how she would deal with someone who was being difficult.

The older Williams sister recently answered questions from her followers on Eleven by Venus’ Instagram story. One follower asked her how she dealt with someone who was being blatantly disrespectful to her. Williams answered that she tries to keep her head straight in such a situation. 

She added that, usually, she would stay out of it. But if they tried pulling her into their tantrum, she would draw the line at her involvement in a calm and collected manner. Queen V also said she has had to do it several times on tour. 

“So someone being disrespectful has nothing to do with me, so I don’t mind if they’re a little crazy on their own. But when they wanna pull me into it, that’s when I would draw the line, and I would confront them. But in a very calm way. I’ve had to do that on tour occasionally, and I’ve had no problem with anybody afterwards. It’s just a match, and honestly, I like a little bit of confrontation sometimes; bring it,” Williams said.

The former world number 1 further stated that one must confidently encounter such people. She advised her followers to stay calm and do what they need to do and proceed from there. 

Williams also said, “But you don’t have to stoop to their level; I would never, ever do that, and honestly, it’s kinda funny. Let them self-destruct. Just look at it, laugh and let them go crazy because then you have an advantage.”

Despite the elder Williams sister dealing with adversity in a calm manner, the younger Williams sister is unlike her sister in this regard.

Serena Williams starkly different from her sister

Serena Williams is not the same as her sister in this regard. As the younger Williams sister has faced great disrespect in her life, she has seldom remained calm when dealing with it. Whenever she feels that she is being cheated or taunted, the 23-time grand slam champion has always fought back. Therefore, the advice given by her would undoubtedly differ from her sister’s methods.
