Serena Williams is a strong-willed person. However, she doesn’t shy away from owning her emotions either. Therefore, as she is about to bid farewell to a career to which she has dedicated almost her entire life, Williams is expressing her thoughts and feeling to the fullest.

The 23 times Grand Slam champion is taking every measure in order to avoid missing things she might regret later. She is willing to extract the best out of her last dance.

A part of that is reliving the best moments with the elder sister Venus, who has had a great impact on her life. The Williams sisters will play together for one last time in the ongoing Grand Slam. And before starting the journey, Venus had a few things to say about traveling alongside Serena.

Venus about being careful around Serena Williams

While speaking to the press after her opening round defeat, Venus Williams spoke about the role they have played in each other’s life. She said, “We’re a huge influence on each other, and I’m a huge influence on her.”

“For me, I just kind of felt like my role is to make sure I don’t influence her in any way, and that this decision needs to be all hers and her family’s. The newest part of the family, I guess I would say, because obviously we are family.”

Thereafter, she added, “I think that’s the role I play is definitely support with everyone else in my family.” The Williams sisters have played many matches together and were one of the best duo out there.

Serena and Venus have bagged 14 doubles grand slam titles, with the last victory coming in 2016 Wimbledon. They also grabbed gold medals in three Olympics. First, they came out victorious in Sydney. Then in 2008 they dominated the courts of Beijing and defended their title in the 2012 London Olympics.

Speaking of their doubles run, Serena and Venus will play their first match on Thursday. The legendary American duo will lock horns with the Czech professionals Linda Nosková and Lucie Hradecká in the opening round of the tournament.

Venus’ record against Serena

There was a time when the Williams sisters were the only ones who could pose a threat to one another’s run. They often met in the finals of the tournaments, if not in the same pool. Up till now they have locked horns 30 times, out of which the younger sibling has a lead of 18-12.

They last squared off in the clay courts of Rome for a seat in the last 16 of the Italian Open. That match, however, didn’t come to a real conclusion as Serena took a walk over and Venus was declared the victor.
