The Billie Jean King Cup is heating up! With a roster bursting with talent, including Emma Raducanu, the top teams are gearing up for the finals in Malaga. Emma is set to compete after recovering from a foot injury that sidelined her during the Korea Open during the quarterfinal match against Daria Kasatkina. After getting some much-needed rest and recuperation, she’ll be joining forces with the rest of the Britain Team in Malaga. With the competition this intense, what’s fueling her excitement?
After suffering a left foot ligament injury at the Korea Open on September 21st, she has been recovering for the rest of the season. Expectations are high as the 2021 US Open champion springs back into action. However, having just gotten back on court after a nearly seven-week break, Raducanu knows the upcoming challenges won’t be easy. The Brit expressed her determination in an interview, “While it’s the end of the season for a lot of players. I feel I’m just beginning to kick-start and get things in motion.” This mindset reflects her readiness to tackle the pressure of competition.
During her recovery in the UK, Emma embraced some personal growth. “In my time off, I did a lot of reading, and picked the piano back up,” she revealed. Being away from the tour can be tough, especially with homesickness. However, spending time with her grandmother felt like a retreat. She described it as “a bit of a retreat for me and very far and opposite from what I usually do.” This break was special, especially since she rarely sees family. “I was very grateful for that opportunity because I don’t get to see her very often,” she added.
