Patrick Mouratoglou on Serena Williams’ performance
Mouratoglou had previously worked with Serena, helping her in winning 10 of her 23 grand slam titles as well as an Olympic gold medal. However, while discussing what it was like to coach an all-time great like Serena, the French coach once revealed one of the major reasons for Williams’ inconsistency.
He once told Serena, “There are a few reasons why you lost too many matches. First of all, you don’t always go to tournaments being ready 100%. This is a big mistake because you lose matches because you’re not prepared 100%. And at the end of the year, every loss brings other losses. Every loss takes confidence out of you, and it hurts you. You can’t afford to lose for bad reasons. You can’t win everything, but every time you lose a match, you have to be sure of three things.”
