“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” wrote Taylor Swift on Instagram just hours after the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris on September 10. The public message soon attracted hordes of supporters and critics—with one US woman even selling “non christian” Swift’s Eras Tour tickets. And then came the reaction everybody guessed would definitely come.
Former US President and the presidential candidate for the upcoming elections, Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social and launched a sharp tirade on Swift. “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” he wrote in all caps, garnering a swift jab from Serena Williams‘ former coach and passionate Swiftie, Rennae Stubbs.
It’s not like Trump has always hated the Grammy-award winning singer. In February this year, he seemed almost confident that Swift would be an ally. Saying how he “made her[Taylor] so much money”, the 78-year-old had said, “There’s no way she could endorse Crooked Joe Biden, the worst and most corrupt President in the History of our Country, and be disloyal to the man who made her so much money[through the Music Modernization Act].” Then, in June 2024, he took it a step further and called Swift “unusually beautiful” But unfortunately, the love’s not mutual and never will, it seems.

Trump’s recent remarks are widely criticized now (well, obviously!) and Serena Williams’ ex-coach is the latest to join the fray. Sharing a post about Trump’s remarks on her Instagram Story, Stubbs criticized the politician and wrote, “What a child!”
As for Serena Williams, despite rumors of her friendship with the former president (which included her dancing with Trump and his wife Melania in a New Year’s Eve party around 2015), the tennis player has maintained her neutrality on political matters. For the unversed, Williams, her mother and her sister Venus, practice Jehovah’s Witnesses, which prohibits them from voting, running for political office or voicing support for a particular candidate.
On a separate note, interestingly, this is not the first time that Rennae Stubbs has defended Taylor Swift. When the artist appeared at the Super Bowl this year to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce, several fans accused her of distracting the focus of the player and ruining the watching experience of the fans. However, Nielsen Data suggested that the match was watched by 123.4 million viewers across all platforms. Stubbs quickly took a jibe at Swift’s critics with the data and wrote “So @taylorswift13 didn’t ruin football watching for y’all. 👍🏼 😂” on X.
Stubbs’ admiration for Swift is not limited to just extending her support on social media, she is actually a keen follower of Swift’s work.

However, the news was most probably a rumor has several reports mentioned there was no such developments in the works.
Whatever the case, those who know how much Stubbs admires Swift won’t be surprised at all that she has had a go at Donald Trump to defend the pop singer, but it will be interesting to see if Swift responds to Trump herself.
