26-year-old Czech tennis star Karolina Muchova is hoping to go the distance in the upcoming Madrid Open. In the tournaments’ round of 128, Muchova made short work of Estonian Anett Kontaveit and registered a 6-2, 6-2 victory. After her dominant win over Kontaveit, Muchova was quizzed regarding her progress as a tennis player and about her favorites from both the ATP and WTA Tours.

Muchova stated that she only ever looked up to Swiss Maestro Roger Federer. She also failed to come up with a name from the WTA tour that managed to impress her when she was a young tennis fan and an aspiring professional.

Following Muchova’s convincing win against Kontaveit, she sat down with the Tennis Channel to answer a few questions. Prakash Amritraj, the host, touched on Muchova’s apparent comfort on the Madrid clay court. Muchova replied that the fact that the court in Madrid feels like sand to her is what makes it easy for her to adapt.

However, it was the next question from Amritraj that left Muchova in a fix. It was about the tennis players she looked up to. In response, Muchova said, “Of course, it’s Federer!” Amritraj also looked back on Muchova’s performance against Kontaveit, which featured quite a few slices, which Federer was a specialist at, and Muchova agreed, “Yeah, he does!”

Next, Amritraj asked Muchova to come up with some of her inspirations from women’s tennis. Surprisingly, the Czech star said, “Not really. I didn’t really look up to anyone.” However, she took the initial sting out of her statement by saying, “I know maybe it’s a bit mean to say, but…”, following which Amritraj interrupted her and posed his next question.
