Coco Gauff’s journey at the Australian Open ended today during the semifinals as she played her last match of the tournament against Aryna Sabalenka. Even though her fans she herself had high expectations for the first grand slam of 2024, it ended in disappointment for her.

However, taking inspiration from other legendary tennis players like Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, Coco Gauff shared that she will not let one match take away her happiness and she will continue to be proud of herself and be positive about everything that is going on around her. Coco Gauff derives inspiration from Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova for her career

In an interview post her loss against Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff was asked about how she is able to enjoy the sport even when she tastes defeat. To which she responded that she would not let one match define her career like Williams and Sharapova.

Gauff added, “I watched these matches growing up and watching Serena (Williams) and (Maria) Sharapova lose matches. When you’re in it, it feels like the end of the world but then when you look at history, they didn’t let one match define their career. I’m going to dwell on it but the sun is going to rise tomorrow. Tomorrow, I’m going to try to go to the movies or something, be proud of myself.

She shared how she won’t let one loss make her feel less of herself and it will be better tomorrow. In the same interview, Gauff also talked about how the loss hurt her but she also admitted that Sabalenka played better than her.

Gauff openly admits that Aryna Sabalenka played better than her

In the same interview, Coco Gauff talked about how overall she had a positive tournament. Even though it was a tough match for her. She also added, “I had chances in both sets, but she played better tonight.” Coco Gauff also added that in the end it just came to a couple of points of difference but that is what tennis is about.

In the end, she also stated that it wouldn’t have mattered how many points she would have lost. It would have hurt her the same because it was a Grand Slam.
