Tennis was predominantly a male-dominated sport for the majority of its rich history. However, in the early 70s, it saw a radical change, thanks to the efforts of the Original Nine. The nine courageous women, spearheaded by veteran Billie Jean King, were the first to take a stand against gender discrimination. Although Chris Evert wasn’t a member of the Original Nine, she played a pivotal part. Not only did she embrace her femininity on the court, but she also added elements to highlight it.
The story dates back to 1978 when Avert nearly lost her bracelet during the match. Apparently, the match was put to a halt to find it. Since then, the jewelry piece was christened the ‘Tennis Bracelet.’ Now, Serena Williams has also taken a power move as she launched tennis bracelets with her brand ‘Serena Williams Jewelry’.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion is a queen of multiple interests, especially in business and fashion. Hence, Williams recently revealed a collection of bracelets inspired by Chris Evert.
Williams popularised the customization of tennis outfits on the court. Similarly, Chris Evert popularized the concept of tennis bracelets. Lightweight diamond studded bracelets became a signature style of the tennis legend. Obviously, a lover of making fashion statements, Williams was bound to launch a collection of her own. She recently shared the story of her classy and elegant collection of bracelets.
However, the twist she added to it is the insignia of her initial S for locking the bracelet. The golden chain with diamonds studded all over it is the true explanation of the star-studded legacy of the player herself. She shared the look and feel of the bracelet through her jewelry brand’s Instagram story.

Thus, while Williams and Evert may have had other issues, their love for jewelry sets them on the same side.
Chris Evert sent a loud and clear message through her bracelets
It was Evert who replaced tennis-striped sweatbands with strings of elegant diamond studded bracelets. The term itself came into existence because Evert wore them while she played on the court.

Nevertheless, there was a deeper reason behind doing so. In an interview with Vogue, she stated she felt empowered with the bracelet. It made her feel empowered both as a woman and an athlete. Evert herself collaborated with designer Monica Rich Kosann to release tennis bracelets.
