American WTA star Danielle Collins recently went through “one of the most amazing experiences” of her tennis career: winning the 2025 United Cup trophy. She celebrated her win with an emotional post for her team featuring the brilliant Coco Gauff and highlighted why team spirits matter so much.
Despite announcing her retirement after the 2024 season, Collins showed up in the 2025 United Cup. This 2024 Miami Open winner endured physical challenges like rheumatoid arthritis and endometriosis and remained one of Team USA’s most fun-loving and entertaining players. Although she didn’t play any matches, her infectious fun-loving energy kept her team high-spirited to deliver an impressive performance in this tournament. Reflecting on the 2024 Charleston Open winner’s personality, Coco Gauff said great things about Collins. She was asked if she taught Collins about videography, and Gauff’s response was hilarious. The former US Open champion also revealed her wish to go to Escape Rooms and shoot Tiktok videos with Collins.
“Danielle, she is pretty young, and I am surprised that she hasn’t done some twerking yet today. I had to tell her not to do that. But, no, my whole team, we have great team vibes, escape rooms. We haven’t done a team Tiktok yet. So maybe today or tomorrow we’ll do it.” Gauff’s words echoed the fun she had participating in this event with her colleagues. Now, Danielle Collins shared a similar feeling after her team bagged their second United Cup trophy yesterday.

“The absolute best week with this team. And what great team mates I have for completely spoiling me all week long I have to admit I loved every second of not having to lift a finger while everyone else was completley dominating left and right (hammer emoji) Seriously nothing better than being with this crew,” wrote Collins in an emotional tribute to her team on her IG platform. She added her jaws are already sore because of “all the smiles and belly laughs from this week.”

Despite so much fun, Collins’ 2025 United Cup journey wasn’t just about laughter and enjoyment. She also landed in a controversy right before their final match against Team Poland. Collins’ reaction towards Iga Swiatek sparked a new discussion reminding fans about their 2024 Paris Olympics feud. Swiatek and Collins’ feud started at the Paris Olympics when Collins allegedly shot a backhand pointed to Swiatek’s chest, then retired mid-match for abdominal injury and had a confrontation with the Polish during the ceremonial handshake. The 2024 Miami Open winner felt that Swiatek was “insincere” about her injury and called her out, leaving the Polish player quite baffled.

Danielle Collins brews fresh controversy against Iga Swiatek
Ahead of the final match between Team Poland and Team USA, Iga Swiatek and Danielle Collins shared a bizarre handshake that shed light on their complicated relationship. The American WTA star maintained a cold attitude while shaking the former number one’s hands. Soon after that she immediately changed her sight as if she had made the gesture only for protocol.
During an interview with Atlantic, Collins confessed that she could have been better in her approach with Swiatek. “I think what happened on the court is very much just like sometimes people have friction at work. For most people, it’s not on the news. I’m trying to be the best person that I can be. But that’s not to say that I don’t fall short of that. I could have taken a different approach and done some things differently. But we had a moment there on court,” Collins said.
