The Wimbledon Championships is one of the most prestigious tournaments of the year. Players who win the Wimbledon have several achievements ticked off of their bucket lists. While the players earn bragging rights, they also earn a whopping amount of prize money with which they can retire if they want. While the winners obviously earn a mind-boggling amount, the players who qualify also take home a big wad of cash. Coco Gauff, although ousted from Wimbledon, will not leave the grass slam empty-handed.
The prize money for Wimbledon has always been a huge amount. However, the prize for the tournament suffered as the Covid pandemic hit normalcy around the world. While it went lower for 2021, it bounced back up and rose to the level of 2019.

Leading up to the tournament, Gauff was confident that she would perform well. Being in the top 6, Gauff became one of the favorites of the championship. She met Sofia Kenin in the first round and immediately understood that she would not have an easy time. The first set went to Kenin, and Gauff came back in the second set. Kenin then went ahead and amplified her game to win the final set as well.
The two Americans fought with all the power of their being, but Kenin was on a fantabulous momentum, and Gauff had to relent. Exiting the first round will be a matter of immense sadness for anyone who was dubbed the favorite. However, Gauff will not go home without anything to lift her up. The young American sensation will take home an enormous $69,615 even after a loss in the first round.
She is able to soothe her mind with the prize money because of a record-breaking prize pool for the SW19.
