Ever since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the racket sport has taken up a different complexion in the Ukrainian icon. She now wants to change lives through tennis. Svitolina is an inspiration to many Ukrainians, and she is now fully focused on supporting her countrymen in whatever ways she can. Here’s what she revealed recently.
Elina Svitolina reveals her shift in ‘priorities’

Svitolina is quite busy nowadays off the court with her responsibilities of being an ambassador for UNITED24. UNITED24 is the official fundraising platform launched by the Ukrainian president to rebuild the damaged infrastructure during the wars. Svitolina has earlier praised Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his strong stands. Now, she along with the former Ukrainian soccer team captain, Andriy Shevchenko has taken the responsibility to be the voice of their nation in front of the world.
When asked about her return to tennis, Svitolina said she first wants peace in her homeland. She further added that she is learning to build a balance between her tennis ambitions and everything else happening around her recently. “Of course, I want to win a grand slam. But now I feel like the priorities have changed a lot after giving birth to Skaï and having other goals as well with UNITED24, with my foundation. I feel like priorities have shifted a little bit.“
She added that she wants to play and win every single match. But right now, she wants to look back and cherish the moments she had on the court without putting much pressure on herself. Although looking at her career trajectory, especially her comeback, fans can be confident about her future.

The comeback player of the year
From 1344 to number 25 in the world, what a run this has been for Svitolina. She had showcased some outstanding performances this year after coming back from her one-year-long maternity leave.
