Almost four seasons ago, Aryna Sabalenka got the most devastating news during her competitive tennis journey. The young WTA sensation’s father, a former Ice Hockey player, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 43. It was a huge tragedy that befell the Belarusian tennis player, who was quite close to her father.

Sabalenka, however, had no time to grieve as she still had a dream to fulfill that she shared with her hero and major support system. Now, despite fulfilling her late father’s wish during her phenomenal campaign at the US Open, the reigning Grand Slam champion recently got overwhelmed with emotions on a special day as she penned a heartfelt message.

The Belarusian tennis star had a remarkable campaign at the recently concluded hard court major event in New York. Despite losing the championship match of the US Open, Sabalenka pulled off a great feat during the tournament.

For the very first time in her competitive journey, the WTA player attained the world No. 1 stature and it was a dream that she shared with her late father. Now, after fulfilling her dad’s wish, Sabalenka recently got emotional on a special occasion according to her recent Instagram story.

While sharing a picture of herself alongside the former Ice Hockey player, Sabalenka said, “Time passes, but the pain is still the same! I miss you, dad. It would have been your 47th birthday…”

She further penned another emotional note, “It’s would be you 47 birthday dad.! miss you so much”

The Belarussian might not have reached the top of the WTA rankings without the inspiration of her father, whom she previously hailed during a tournament.

The Belarusian displayed a great deal of courage to play in the Adelaide International after the sudden demise of her major support system. After doing so and overcoming her Taiwanese opponent, Hsieh Su-wei in the first round, Sabalenka also paid a heartfelt tribute to her late father.

Sabalenka confessed that she is pursuing success as her father wanted her to be the best, and doing it for him is what keeps her going strong.
