Naomi Osaka has revolutionized the notion of mental health in the sporting realm. After ditching the 2021 French Open citing her mental health issues, Osaka made one thing clear. She values her mental health more than anything else. Osaka herself was not sure about her comeback but after giving birth she can’t seem to feel the thrill of it all.
In an interview with Vogue, she outrightly came out with her love for tennis. She started with, “I’m excited to have the opportunity (to play) again.” Reminiscing about how tennis has shaped her life since she was a child, Osaka understood its importance after feeling its absence. She said, “I’ve been playing tennis since I was three, and I think it’s one of those things where I needed to take a step back to appreciate it more.”
Moreover, her fans and their love is something that Osaka also craves. She said, “I also just really want to see fans again. During COVID, the distance hit me really hard.” And having one more fan added to her list as Shai has come into the picture is only going to give her a boost.

Osaka might not be able to emulate what Serena Williams did
The 23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams, gave birth to Olympia in 2017. And she made sure to hit the court right after giving birth to Olympia. However, this feat is not as easy as one would like to believe. Hence, Osaka felt the same once as she said that she would come back only for a year if she missed the fans. After that, she might just bid the sport farewell.
