McCormack mentioned, “I give her a hard time when she goes deep in Indian Wells and takes a transcontinental flight back to Miami and she wants to sit in economy. She’s as grounded as they come.”

As her Agent narrated the tale of a particular journey, another tennis agent added his thoughts marking a regularity in the simplicity of her choices. “I have seen Pegula flying coach—in the middle seat, no less, sitting next to her husband, Taylor Gahagen,” he said. Pegula’s regular choices of flying in economy class, despite being privileged enough to travel otherwise, marks her down-to-earth nature. She did everything, and our family often told her to slow down and take time for herself,” Pegula shares.

Along with sharing a glimpse of her mother’s tough schedule, she also described her evident role in her father’s success, stating, “She jumped into this journey with him, learning many lessons along the way.” As the tennis star faced the weight of her mother’s cardiac arrest, she added, “Now we come to the realization that all of that is most likely gone. That she won’t be able to be that person anymore.”

As Jessica Pegula gave her thoughts about the close connection with her mom, her words explained the source from where she drove the simplicity and hard-working nature that she presently carries.
