The former Grand Slam champion, Sloane Stephens, has been stunned by Anna Kalinskaya in the third round of the Australian Open. In the process of outclassing her American opponent, the unseeded Russian has now bagged a personal prize money record at the tournament in Melbourne.

As she has prevailed in the first three rounds and will now be appearing in the fourth round, Kalinskaya will surely be taking home a prize sum of $613k at the Australian Open. However, despite securing a whopping amount, the WTA superstar recently brought to light her simple ‘shopping’ desire.

With a brilliant display of her prowess, the Russian WTA star overcame the likes of Arantxa Rus and Katie Volynets to reach the third round. Anna Kalinskaya has now also brushed aside the former US Open champion Sloane Stephens in a three-set game, 6-7, 6-1, 6-4, at the Show Court Arena.

Following her third-round victory, the Russian was asked, “This is the most prize money you’ve ever received at a tournament. What will be your first purchase?” In her on-court interview, Kalinskaya answered, “Nice question. Actually, I don’t have anything in my mind. I will take it easy.”

“Not even some nice jewelry, earrings perhaps?” she was further questioned before she finally revealed her desire to buy a ‘nice purse.’  Anna said, “Maybe a nice purse.” In addition to the prize sum of $613k, the Russian can add more to her bag if she manages to prevail in the following rounds. However, it won’t be an easy task for Anna, as some big challenges now await her in Melbourne.

The unseeded Russian player has reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam event for the first time in her competitive journey. She will now lock horns with the 26th-seeded Italian Jasmine Paolini, who has recently defeated Anna Blinkova in the third round.

The current Italian No. 1 has been in stellar form, as she has already swept aside some of the players of high caliber, including Diana Shnaider and Tatjana Maria. As both Kalinskaya and Paolini are on a roll, their fourth-round match is going to be an exciting encounter at the Australian Open.
