Cancun’s rainy season has already served up some hilarious moments over the course of the WTA Finals. From Aryna Sabalenka covering her head with a towel to Elena Rybakina struggling to serve because of the high winds, there has been no dearth of comedy. The latest victim was none other than Coco Gauff, and the moment came during an All-American semifinal featuring Gauff and her doubles partner Jessica Pegula.

Yet again, the rains lashed down on Cancun and interrupted a contest that was surprisingly going in Pegula’s favor. Up to that point, Gauff had struggled while Pegula had thrived. However, Gauff could afford a smile when the heavy winds wreaked havoc on Gauff’s umbrella.

Going into the semifinal, Gauff was expected to seal a spot in the final against either Aryna Sabalenka or Iga Swiatek. However, Gauff simply couldn’t live with Pegula’s electrifying display. As a result, Pegula ran away with the first set 6-2.

The second set was turning out to be a repeat of the first set, with Gauff struggling to deal with Pegula. Suddenly, the rains came, which gave Gauff a glimmer of hope as she could get some time to regroup.

However, as Gauff covered her head with a towel and took the umbrella in her own hands, heavy winds came out of nowhere. While Gauff managed to hold on to her umbrella, the winds ended up crumbling it, leaving Gauff with a wry smile on her face.

Since Gauff tasted glory at the US Open, her form has most definitely taken a hit, and it’s probably down to her playing so much tennis throughout the season. Now that her exit from the WTA Finals is confirmed, her number one priority would be to rest and recover as the next season inches closer.
