The 2023 French Open is only days away, and ahead of the showpiece clay court spectacle, two of women’s tennis’ biggest stars have launched their signature sneakers in collaboration with sportswear giants. On one hand, 19-year-old American prodigy Coco Gauff launched the sneakers in collaboration with New Balance. Gauff, who reached the final of the 2022 French Open, will wear the sneakers and hope to go one better this time and win the women’s singles title. On the other hand, 25-year-old Japanese sensation Naomi Osaka launched her sneaker collection in collaboration with Nike. Unlike Gauff, Osaka won’t be participating in this year’s French Open.
Despite the differences between Gauff and Osaka in terms of their 2023 French Open participation, their new sneaker launches prove that they are among the most marketable names in women’s tennis right now.

New Balance took to Instagram to announce the brand-new colorway. The post was captioned, “The Coco CG1 ‘Twisted Net’. Dropping globally on May 26th, 2023. The first of its kind”.
When it came to designing the new ‘Twisted Net’ colorway, New Balance drew inspiration from several things. For starters, the sportswear brand took Gauff’s enthusiasm about social media into consideration. It also warped a tennis court net with cyberspace. Last but not least, it incorporated green and blue flashes that are typical of French fashion. Gauff proudly shared the image of the new colorway on her Instagram stories.
