Veronika Kudermetova is one of the big finalists in the Pan Pacific Open. She beat Iga Swiatek prior to her semifinal bout and showed her recent improvement in performance against the Polish player. Continuing the merry run in the semis, the 26-year-old seems to be on a high at the moment.
Now, after her semifinal win, Kudermetova shared big dreams with fans in the stadium. The Russian displayed her hunger to make it big at the top level. And guess what? Her dreams might actually come true. Let’s hear it from the star herself.
Veronika Kudermetova dreams big in Japan

Kudermetova faced Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the first semifinal in Tokyo and went into the match, all guns blazing. The WTA rank 19 won her match in three sets, two of which were decided by tie-breakers. After the match, Kudermetova shared a desire of hers with the fans in the stadium.

The first finalist of the tournament was asked, “You’ve secured a trophy, but there are 2 types of trophies. A big one & a small one. Which one are you aiming for?”. The reply from the Russian player could not come faster as she quickly said, “I would like the big one.” After beating all the players in her path, Kudermetova is aiming for nothing but the big prize in the land of the rising sun.
Now, she will face either Maria Sakkari or Jessica Pegula in the final, as the two are aiming to become the second finalist. However, her stint in the Japan Open did not come easy, as Kudermetova had to complete a gigantic task before advancing.
WTA 19 beats Iga Swiatek

One of the quarterfinals of the Japan Open saw the WTA rank 2, Iga Swiatek, competing with the 19 ranked Kudermetova. Many people believed the winner would be the rank 2, but it was not meant to be. Kudermetova was not ready to face defeat and took the match from Swiatek. An upset by all means. But the arena was filled with emotions as Japanese tennis fans were smitten with Swiatek, given all the signs and cards present in the stadium.
The Polish player found herself exiting the tournament sooner than expected with a 2-6 6-2 4-6 defeat. Now, all eyes will be on Kudermetova as she will look to thump her opponent in the finals and lift the prize.
