From Miami to Charleston, it’s a back-to-back win for Danielle Collins. After winning two incredible events in a row, she’s not only accomplished an incredible feat but also created a record that was previously held by none other than Serena Williams. Recently, being an American tennis player, she revealed about her childhood and resonated her story with the Williams sisters, especially the younger one.
When it comes to American tennis, Venus and Serena Williams are the first names that come to mind, and for Collins, when she grew up, she had the 23-time Grand Slam champion as her idol, teaching every American how to ‘work your tail off’ and achieve their dreams.

After lifting the Charleston Open title, in an interview with Tennis Channel, she opened up about childhood and how it was inspired and, at the same time, similar to the 43-year-old American tennis legend’s childhood. She stated, “Serena was my idol. I think the Williams sisters taught all of us it doesn’t matter where you come from, doesn’t matter your background, what you look like, how much money your parents have. If you set your mind to something and you work your tail off, anything’s possible.”
Subsequently, she clearly highlighted that it was the William sisters who taught her to achieve the dream, irrespective of what the other parts of life hold. On the other hand, the Miami Open champion also shared how there is a similarity between Williams’ father and her father, because of which both of them have a similar childhood story.
Further, she added, “I think I resonated with their story a little bit too. My dad was my coach and we were at the public parks, and my parents were driving me all around, and working double, triple shifts just so they could support my dream.” Just like the way the Williams sisters started playing at the public parks, with their father guiding them as a coach, Collins also had a similar journey, just like them, with her father, while she pursued her dream.
But did you know that during the tournament she received a lot of support and social media from the former world’s number one ranked tennis player? And recently, the 8-time Miami Open champion also congratulated Collins on her Miami Open win.

Williams extends heartfelt congratulations to Collins
After marking one of the biggest wins of her career, the 30-year-old received applause from the 23-time Grand Slam champion, who has won the title multiple times in the past. In a victory post that was shared by the WTA, in which Collins was seen holding the title, Williams commented, and wrote, “So happy, love this and you,”
Looking into this in no time, the 15th-ranked tennis player also replied to the comment and wrote, “@serenawilliams I love you more!!!” Along with that, she clearly stated how she loves Williams and the way she has appreciated her contribution to the court. It won’t be wrong to say that, just like any other American tennis player, she has also carried love for the Williams sisters.
