Win together, lose together, slay together! Coco Gauff gave an early lead to Team USA against Poland in the final of the 2025 United Cup. She defeated the former world number one, Iga Swiatek in this high-octane 1 hour 52 minutes match by 6-4,6-4. This was her second consecutive victory against the Pole. The previous one was at the 2024 WTA Finals. With this victory, Coco Gauff has now become the youngest player to win three consecutive matches against the Top 2 in the WTA since Dara Kasatkina in 2017. Coco Gauff’s mother, Candi, and her teammates looked ecstatic with this incredible result. However, Danielle Collins was perhaps the happiest one inside the stadium!

We are well aware of the bitter history between Danielle Collins and Iga Swiatek. There were several controversial moments during their match at the Paris Olympics and fans could get the flavor of those bitter memories even during the 2025 United Cup. How? Well, Collins was spotted sharing a bizarre handshake with Swiatek just before their team’s United Cup clash. Several fans noticed the American’s reaction during the handshake, it was unusual. And when Swiatek lost, it was clear Collins was a tad bit happier than anyone else.

Coco Gauff looked quite pumped up during the match herself. This was only her third victory against Swiatek in 14 meetings! Gauff celebrated the moment with her teammates. Her mother Candi was also spotted celebrating this emphatic win by waving a small cutout featuring the logo of the United Cup. She looked quite pleased with her daughter’s performances against one of the finest in women’s tennis.

Coco Gauff has time and spoken about the mother’s enormous role in her career. In October last year during an interview, she said, “She’s my biggest fan for sure. Having one or both of my parents I think always makes the tournament easier. You don’t have to take care of some things.

Even Collins has been a big admirer of Coco Gauff! During a conversation on the ‘Advantage Connors’ podcast in August last year, Danimal said, “You look at someone like Coco Gauff and her support system with her family and I think this is like her destiny. It’s her God-given talent and it is what she is truly meant to be doing. Beyond tennis, I think she stands for so much outside of the sport as well, which is really important.

Not only Collins but earlier in this tournament, even Taylor Fritz heaped praise on Coco Gauff’s amazing talent. What did Coco Gauff say after her emphatic victory over, Iga Swiatek, though?

Coco Gauff shares her thoughts on her incredible win over Iga Swiatek

Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek have met each other quite a few times on the Tour, but it has mostly been a one-woman show, with Swiatek leading the head-to-head by 11-3. However, things seem to have taken a turn. Gauff has turned the tables, first by beating Swiatek in the WTA Finals and then in the United Cup.

Ahead of the United Cup final though, Swiatek had herself showered praise on Coco Gauff by saying, “Coco, you know, she’s playing great, I think. I mean, I haven’t watched, but Coco is I think at this stage she’s developing every month, and it’s going to be also a nice challenge, and, you know, I’m happy with my game. I can kind of play without expectations and just push for more as I did today. I’ll be happy anyway if I do, like, the same kind of work I did today, like, no matter the result. So I’ll focus on myself.

Even Gauff was seen showering praise on Swiatek after her WTA Finals win. The American said that it’s always “tough” to play against someone like Iga Swiatek.

Coco Gauff didn’t have a great outing with Team USA at the Paris Olympics, so she’s thrilled to put her team on the front foot in the epic final at the United Cup. In the post match interview, she said, “I think I have the belief now that I’m one of the best players in the world. I think I played great tennis. I’m happy to get a point on board for Team USA. It was tough today, I’m not gonna lie. There’s a lot of Polish fans. I appreciate the atmosphere. Thank you to the US fans. Especially the ones up here that were carrying.
