“It’s been a spicy few weeks” for Danielle Collins. After her victory over Daria Kastakina, at the Charleston Open Finals, the current No.15 drew comparisons between her on-court dominance and a memorable late-night indulgence. She related a moment of culinary bliss, describing how the spiciness of her play was reflected in the casual taco served with plenty of spicy sauce. Surely some “Hot Sauce Vibes.”
During a post-match interview with Tennis Channel’s Steve Weissman, Danielle Collins revealed her late-night incident with a sauce spill. After her previous day’s performance against Maria Sakkari in the Charleston Open semifinals, she described her performance, saying that she was “thinking hot sauce baby.”
Now, after winning the finals of the tournament, she recounted her performance on court once again and jokingly said, “You know it is really interesting. Last night, I ordered my UberEATS. I was eating my taco in bed. And I had the hot sauce, and all of a sudden the hot sauce was everywhere.” However, even after the tragedy, the Miami Open champion described her play on-court as “spicy” once again!

“How fitting! I was talking about hot sauce all day, and now I am like breathing in all this hot sauce, so I came out with some hot sauce vibes…It was a spicy performance today,” said the soon-to-be retiring tennis sensation.
The Charleston Open 2024 finals saw unseeded Danielle Collins dominating fourth-seeded Daria Kasatkina in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) on clay in just 77 minutes. Her victory extended her winning streak to 13 matches. With this, Collins entered an exclusive group, becoming the first player to win the Miami and Charleston titles in the same year since Serena Williams did it in 2013.
With her bags packed for Europe and a strong No. 4 position in the WTA Finals chase behind Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, and Aryna Sabalenka, Collins sets out to keep the heat on. However, she has previously announced her retirement at the end of the season. Before that takes place, during the post-match interview, she opened up about her plans and strategies that she used in the finals match.
