Collins’ next target is winning the Miami Open
After overcoming Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3, 6-2, home favorite Danielle Collins will square off against world No. 4 Elena Rybakina in the Miami Open final. Collins, who declared in January that she would retire at the end of the season, will participate in her first-ever WTA 1000 final. At the Miami Open, Collins is competing in front of her home audience and has not lost a set since overturning a one-all draw in her opening encounter. In any set, no player has defeated her more than three times.
“This feels like a really big accomplishment. I think all of us want to make finals of 1000-level tournaments. These are our biggest tournaments of the year, aside from the Grand Slams,” Collins said after her latest match.
