This year has been a mix of ups and downs for the American tennis star, Danielle Collins. She won the Miami Open earlier this year, the first WTA 1000 triumph for the 31-year-old superstar. After that, she notched up her celebrations even further by winning the title at the Charleston Open, one week later. Due to this incredible run, ‘Danimal’ earned a spot in the top 10. And guess what? She jumped to the 8th spot in the women’s singles ranking on August 5. However, things looked a bit gloomy after that, and she failed to regain that winning momentum. Recently, Andy Roddick was spotted sharing his thoughts on Collins’ 2024 season. What did he say, though?
Andy Roddick has always been a big fan of Danielle Collins. In May, during an interview, he highlighted how Collins, time and again, manages to bring a different vibe whenever she steps onto the court. He said, “It’s like you don’t have to be a diehard tennis fan to understand her vibe, to understand that there’s like this primal aggression inside of this, you know, awesome, you know, woman just taking cuts and everything.”
Danielle Collins has played 55 matches this season and she has won 38 out of them! During the recent episode of the ‘Served with Andy Roddick’, the 42-year-old tennis legend heaped praise on Collins’ incredible run in the early phases of this season. “For the three weeks when she was playing great – she’s a great ball striker, she’s great at controlling the middle of the court. For those three weeks, she was hitting herself out of problems from the corners. She built up the ranking of 11 in about 6-8 weeks from Miami to Rome. Took a loss on Roland Garros, didn’t get her footing back for the rest of the year. Struggled post-US Open, struggled at the Billie Jean King Cup.”

Roddick further added, “I think the worst of injuries – I think there was some stuff potentially away from the tennis court. But, listen man! When she caught lightening in a bottle for those 8 weeks, it’s fun to watch someone who knows exactly where the ball is going, when it comes of their racket every time, and she had that for that couple of months.” What else did he say about Danielle Collins in that podcast? Well, according to him, “It’s really cool to see someone who’s not 21 years old, who has been out there for a while, who have paid their dues, have been in big tournaments, win the bigger title of her career in Miami, in a major prestigious event.”

For those who are unaware, Danielle Collins has won 4 titles so far in her career, and 2 out of those came in this season itself! Andy Roddick now wants to witness a similar kind of run in March-April, early May type tennis from ‘Danimal’ in the 2025 season. What does Collins think about her upcoming season?
Danielle Collins promises her fans of “some more epic matches” in 2025
After losing her R2 match at the 2024 Australian Open, Danielle Collins announced that she’d be retiring at the end of the season to start a family. However, later on, we found her revealing that she’s currently dealing with some health challenges, including an endometriosis diagnosis, that hampered her plans to start a family.

She penned down a long note and added, “While I was very excited and eager to wrap up my tennis career on a high note this year, and jump headfirst into my next chapter of life, things have not gone as planned. So, the Danimal story has not reached its conclusion. I will be back on tour in 2025.” What can we expect from her in the next season, though? “While there are no guarantees in life, I hope to build on my 2024 momentum and keep playing until there is more certainty around my personal fertility journey. The only guarantee for now will be some more epic matches,” said Collins.
What was Andy Roddick’s reaction to this announcement featuring one of his favorite tennis stars, though? “Purely from a tennis fan perspective, I am happy we are going to get to see more of her,” said Roddick earlier this year. Do you think Danielle Collins can do wonders in the 2025 season, especially in the major tournaments?
