Caroline Wozniacki, who made a comeback to the women’s tour this season, surprised the entire tennis community. At the age of 33 and after embarking on a parenthood journey, the WTA superstar has decided to play competitive tennis once again. Prior to this, the Dane had to take a lengthy hiatus that she announced in 2020 when she decided to focus on her family duties.

Almost after three seasons, it was a tough decision for her to make a return to the court while juggling various responsibilities. But it was somehow made possible partly due to her best friend, Serena Williams‘ profound support and influence, according to Wozniacki’s recent disclosures. Reminiscing about reaching out to the ‘Queen of the Court’ before her comeback, the 33-year-old labeled her ‘the craziest tennis player of all time’.

Caroline Wozniacki on how Serena Williams has been a support system

In the podcast show ‘The Game Changers,’ the former world No. 1 was asked whether she conferred her comeback decision with her former American colleague. Wozniacki answered in affirmative as she opened up about the unwavering support that she received from another WTA star who has long been a part of the ‘tennis mom’s club’.

The Dane said, “I did for sure. Yes. (talk to Serena before making her comeback) And obviously Serena is the craziest tennis player of all time. And it’s fantastic what she’s been able to do. But just still having, you know, her perspective of things and being able to talk to her and her experience, it definitely helped.”

Just like her 33-year-old friend, Williams also made a comeback to competitive tennis after welcoming her first child, Olympia Ohanian. The American’s past experiences and perspective towards the same have now undoubtedly inspired Wozniacki to emulate the same comeback story.

Apart from this, Wozniacki also talked about how a few more tennis moms in the circuit are now inspiring others with their journeys.

Wozniacki hails other tennis mothers on the WTA tour

In the podcast show, the Dane also said that it is quite “exciting” to witness other women’s tennis players now balancing the duties of a mother and an athlete. Wozniacki asserted that it is quite possible for the WTA players to play at a high level on the court even after embracing motherhood during their competitive journey.

She said, “And there’s a few more moms on tour now. And it’s I think it’s exciting. And, you know, it’s just nice to know that you can do both. And you can, you know, show women that if you have a dream and a passion, you can still do that and still be a great mom and still do what you love to do.”
