Chris Evert has aroused the animosity of tennis fans once more! The 2023 US Open has started, and, no doubt, the tournament is incomplete without a little drama. While the 68-year-old tennis legend is covering the major as a part of the commentary team, she recently caught the eye of a lot of tennis fans due to her undivided attention and support for 19-year-old Coco Gauff.

While the 7th-ranked tennis player entered the 4th round of the tournament, her third-round clash grabbed a lot of attention. Not because of the players, but because of Evert’s comments, making her choice quite clear. This, undoubtedly, drew the ire of fans. Let’s take a look at what tennis fans have to say regarding the former world number one’s different behavior towards Gauff’s opponent.

While the 19-year-old is doing great at the US Open, one of her biggest cheerleaders, the 18-time Grand Slam champion, is also present at the tournament as a commentator.

During the 2023 Citi champion’s third round clash against Elise Mertens, there was a time when the former tennis legend supposedly ignored her while praising Gauff on air.

Looking into this, a lot of tennis fans took to their X account to make fun of the 68-year-old tennis veteran over her allegedly unprofessional behavior. This all started when a fan wrote, “@usopen somebody please muzzle Chris Evert! #USOpen2023”

To which another replied, saying, “Just switched to world feed. Had enough after that last whopper.” After that, tennis fans flooded the comment section to mock Evert for her complete disregard for Gauff’s opponent, Elise Mertens.

Although the major issue was not her support but many felt the ‘Ice Maiden’ was heavily biased towards her 19-year-old compatriot.

A fan commented how Evert’s behavior upset him. He wrote, “I’m trying to send Coco Bean positive energy… but Chris Evert grates on my last nerve.”

Further, another fan added information regarding how they are done listening to the former tennis legend’s continuous biased praise for Gauff. He wrote, “Agree.  Chris evert is a good analyst but she is so biased for Gauff i can’t even listen anymore.  Martens hits an unbelievable lob shot and both announcers don’t even say how great that shot was.  Both are so biased.”

While a lot of fans didn’t agree with the way Evert and others promoted Gauff in a biased manner. “I really don’t like how Chris Fowler, Chris Evert, and Pam Shriver more or less advanced Gauff in this match before they even started playing, like Mertens isn’t a veteran and isn’t a good player,” a fan wrote.

Subsequently, a fan also empathized with Gauff’s opponent and wrote, “@espn Chris Evert saying no one expects Mertens to win is disgusting. Get her off.”

Along with that, they also made fun of the 68-year-old tennis veteran. A fan wrote, “Chris Evert on mute during this Coco match.”

Moreover, another one mentioned how there are other players on the court too. He wrote, “Chris Evert, you do know there’s another player on the court with COCO.”

As the 18-time Grand Slam champion is vehemently supporting the teenage sensation in various tournaments, a few days ago both of them shared a playful lighthearted moment together, leaving their fans surprised.
