Victoria Azarenka knows how to get out of a situation effortlessly! Being a tennis player for so long, she has seen the ups and downs of being a popular face of her country. While she has made her stand clear about the Russian-Ukraine war, the discussion has not left her yet. As she was currently seen playing the Australian Open, after facing a 4th round defeat, she shut down a journalist over the same concern.

The 34-year-old player lost to Ukrainian player Dayana Yastremska, with a final score of 6-7,4-6. However, she was not allowed to take some time to process her loss, as the post-match conversation brought back a controversial question.

Victoria Azarenka handles a Russian-Ukraine war-related question in style 

During Azarenka’s press conference after the event, there were a lot of questions wanting to know her perspective while facing a Ukrainian opponent. But rather than dwelling on the question, she brutally shut down an Australian Open journalist for repeating a controversial question again and again.

The journalist first asked her whether there was any additional pressure because of the Ukrainian opponent and how the environment of the match was. To this, Azarenka replied, “The atmosphere was good. I always enjoy playing in Australia. I think it was great. The stadium is always fun. I always have so much support here. Yeah, I wish I could have played just longer here, but it wasn’t meant to be.” 

But then, again, in the next question by the Australian Open journalists, they kind of brought up the same concern. The journalist dropped the same question differently and said, “How about the pressure? Did you feel any additional pressure because the opponent is Ukrainian?”

However, this time Azarenka was in no mood to answer the question and slammed the journalist with a one-word response, “Next.” While she was not happy with the same questioning going around her again and again, this is not the first time that she has embarrassed a journalist who asked her about the Russian-Ukraine war situation.

A few months ago, during Wimbledon, the crowd shared their immense love and gratitude for the player, but at the same time, there was a prominent journalist whose questions turned heads during the press conference with the 34-year-old WT star.

Fortunately, Azarenka handled the situation gracefully amid the Russian-Ukraine saga. A journalist asked her, “What does Wimbledon mean to Russia? Is it big over there? Just in terms of the part it plays in culture.” Consequently, she was quick to reply and shut down the conversation then and there.

“You do know I’m not from Russia, right? Lol.” Although she is quite proud of her country, sometimes these questions go out of hand, but she handles them in her own way gracefully.
