Do celebrity prayers and messages truly help in times of crisis, or are they just symbolic gestures?

It is a devastating day for Floridians. Days after the wrath of Hurricane Helene, another Category 5 storm landed on their coast, making it “not survivable” for locals. As people evacuated to save their lives, two Florida natives offered prayers for the citizens’ safety. Chris Evert and Coco Gauff shared important messages along with their prayers, letting their global supporters know about the people’s misery. With this thoughtful gesture, they also showed how they have never forgotten their roots, despite their fame.

Coco Gauff came forward and offered prayers for Florida locals amid the arrival of Hurricane Milton. Yesterday, NBC News confirmed that Hurricane Milton had intensified and was moving toward Mexico. However, this catastrophic storm, identified as Category 5, was expected to reach coastal Florida today. While evacuations began in advance, there were problems, as 15 million people were still dealing with flooding caused by Hurricane Helene, which had jeopardized their livelihoods just days earlier. Now, Hurricane Milton’s arrival has compounded the issues, putting an additional 11 million people at risk. Gauff, a resident of Delray Beach, Florida, might be in Wuhan for her tournament, but she didn’t forget to do her part.

Sharing the information about shelters as shared by the Orange County of Florida Government, the WTA star had only prayers for the people. “Please Stay Safe Florida,” Gauff wrote on her story with a folding hand emoji that showcased her prayer. Not just Gauff, but another famous Florida resident also shared crucial information about evacuation and shelters during Hurricane Milton. Former tennis legend Chris Evert, who resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, shared a clip from CNN’s coverage, where the Tampa Mayor urged people to evacuate because the storm “isn’t survivable.” Sharing it, Evert tweeted in bold letters, “please take this warning seriously!”

Hurricanes have been a constant challenge for Floridians. Previously, Danielle Collins shared the horrors of Hurricane Helene on her social media, leaving her supporters anxious about her safety. While Helene has passed, the arrival of Hurricane Milton has brought another wave of tension.

While Gauff and Evert offered prayers for the people, another player narrowly escaped the horrors of the storm—Eugenie Bouchard. In her Instagram story yesterday, her followers saw how she escaped Hurricane Milton, shedding light on the dire conditions in Florida.

Sharing the image, she captioned it, “escaping the storm.”  In her next story, she shared a screenshot of her phone’s home screen, where she received national alerts for the hurricane. In her last story, she shared an image from the plane while the plane’s window shield had water droplets. “Stay safe everyone,” captioned Bouchard urging the people of Florida to take serious caution about their safety.

Hurricane Milton has already begun showing its destructive force on coastal Florida. As Evert, Gauff, and Bouchard have urged, people must stay safe. Together, the storm will be overcome soon, but it is crucial that everyone remains calm and follows the necessary precautions as advised by the government.
