Chris Evert is one of the most prominent veterans of the sport. Therefore, her words hold value, reach the masses and affect their thought process to a certain extent. However, the issue with the same is that her critical nature is also out in the open. And some in the crowd don’t appreciate it. Especially when it’s about their favorite player, Serena Williams.

The 18-time Grand Slam champion recently spoke about the young blood Coco Gauff’s gameplay and ignited the deep-seated anger in Williams’ fans. The fans linked her comments on the 18-year-old with her famous open letter to Williams.

Evert is under the microscope for her criticizing nature

Gauff, after claiming a straight set victory throughout the US Open, suffered a similar defeat as her opponents in the quarterfinal. The Cincinnati Masters champion Caroline Garcia outclassed her in sets of 6-3, 6-4. And her game brought a long critical analysis out of the American veteran, Chris Evert. However, that didn’t land well among the fans as one wrote, “Chris Evert is as bad at calling game for Coco Gauff as she is Serena.”

While another added, “Chris Evert’s attitude towards Serena Williams has been going on for a long time. Check out this letter she wrote to Serena in 2006.”

Evert wrote a letter to Williams in the year 2006 explaining how she needs to invest her energy fully on the sport and pointed out the drop in her level from when she debuted. She received massive outlash back then, and it seems like the wounds are still fresh among the fanbase.
