Coco Gauff's new deal: A slap in the face to her haters or just the beginning?

Your love makes her strong, your hate makes her unstoppable! Coco Gauff is not having a good time in the last few months. She started the season with a bang in Auckland, but after that, she failed to perform when it mattered the most. American tennis fans had high hopes for Gauff at the Paris Olympics, but she failed to deliver and made an early exit. Even after coming back, her performances in the previous two tournaments may cause a few worries in the American camp ahead of the US Open. Amid all these struggles, surprisingly she’s still slaying the tennis world with her off-court moves!

Now, we all know that Gauff signed her first contract with New Balance in 2018 at the age of just 14. She later on signed an extension with them and Gauff is known to be “very involved” with that brand’s lifestyle range. Winning the 2023 US Open, was like a feather in her cap. Gauff was then spotted donning a New Balance T-shirt that read, “Call Me Champion” in front of it. And, now perhaps we’d see a new line in front of her apparel, “Thank you to the people who didn’t believe in me!”

Gauff loves almost everything related to fashion, and we recently saw her making her announcement on her Instagram account. She said, “Excited to finally share my part in the @americaneagle 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 campaign. So much heart went into designing this collection with the team. Shop Coco x AE online and in select @americaneagle stores August 19th!” The 20-year-old star revealed that she grew up wearing American Eagle apparel. Her collection will feature a denim jacket bearing the words, “Thank you to the people who didn’t believe in me.” This is the line that we heard from her when she won the US Open last year.

While expressing her thoughts on this partnership with the American Eagle, Gauff said, “I’m grateful that I live in this era where people and brands are starting to recognize our worth. I’ve paid attention to women’s sports my whole life, obviously, being a female athlete, and I can confidently say that the stories have always been there.

This partnership with the $4.5 B brand is perhaps one of the biggest things in her career. Craig Brommers, CMO of AE feels Gauff is a “great representation” of Gen Z. Gauff has partnered with multiple brands over a year journey as a professional tennis player. Her father has played a key role in helping land these big deals, but what is the real significance behind her message to her haters?

Gauff is one of the brightest stars in the tennis world, however, despite being a superstar she’s often subjected to hatred across several social media platforms. At times, this can be a bit too much for a 20-year-old to handle, but Gauff is a well-known ‘fighter’. She has always managed to figure out ways to send a message to her haters with her bold moves. One of them is this, i.e. extracting a few lines from her 2023 US Open speech. Shortly after winning the final, she thanked the people who didn’t believe in her and also added, “To those who thought they were putting water on my fire, you were really adding gas to it. Now I’m really burning so bright right now.

These lines have now become very popular and it’s nice to see her combining this message with her love for fashion. In 2022, during an interview, Coco Gauff revealed, “I usually don’t go on my phone after a losses, and sometimes I do. It doesn’t really bother me, to be honest. If anything, it motivates me more.

Then a year after that, she also spoke about how she uses filters on her Instagram accounts to avoid such too many negative comments. She feels a bit “weird” with all these things, but now she has admitted that she has been using the “block” button a lot to avoid “annoying” people in her life.
