Coco Gauff has seen both sides of the coin! With the US Open victory, she got an opportunity to witness the glory of being a Grand Slam champion. But her recent defeat at the China Open brought the other side to light. After facing a humiliating defeat at the hands of Iga Swiatek, the teenage tennis sensation found herself under fire regarding her stand in the competitive world.

With the US Open victory, while the third-ranked tennis player showed the world what she is capable of, there is one more former player who thinks the other way around. A former Australian tennis player, Casey Dellacqua, refused to write off the former world number one while making a strong statement.

After having a glorious US Open tournament, Gauff faced defeat in the semi-final round of the China Open, and both the tennis stars who were a part of the clash became the talk of the town. When the 38-year-old Australian former tennis player appeared on a recent podcast, The AO Show, she talked about how the semi-final clash is such a hot topic at the moment.

Dellacqua revealed that it was not because of the fact that the 19-year-old faced a defeat. But it was mainly about how she faced a defeat at the hands of one of her biggest competitors.

She said, “I think, you know, we all saw what Gauff was able to achieve at the US Open. But I think in terms of dominance and in terms of who’s kind of still at the top of the women’s game, you can’t go past Swiatek. I think it particularly at this time of the year she’s still putting in some great performances. She’s still got it over Coco Gauff in terms of head-to-head.”

To make it more clear, she also brought in a comparison between them, looking into their head-to-head ratio. Both the tennis players have faced each other nine times on the court, with the Pole leading the record with eight wins against her teenage opponent.

But the biggest question that comes to light after the statement is: why is the Polish tennis player such a tough competitor and difficult opponent for the 19-year-old to tackle on the tennis court?

Why is Swiatek a competitive threat to Gauff?

While the third-ranked tennis player won her first Grand Slam title this year, Swiatek, on the other hand, has claimed four major titles till now. But somewhere down the line, the rivalry between them has started to heat up. Both of them first faced each other back in 2021, when Swiatek comfortably won over her 19-year-old opponent.

But this year, the 2023 US Open champion went ahead and managed a win during the Cincinnati Masters. Despite being in good form, she struggled to find her best self against the 22-year-old tennis star. But for the second-seeded tennis player, with her victory at the China Open, she not only won the tournament but also ended Gauff’s 16-match winning streak.
