Coco Gauff has renewed her name on the discussions revolving around the top WTA scenes. While her form was taking a hit against the likes of Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, the doubles victory at Roland Garros compensated for the loss. Soon after she secured her first doubles grand slam title, a former American pro described how she could be a threat against her rivals.
Gauff’s recent French Open doubles victory with partner Katerina Siniakova has highlighted her incredible potential in the doubles area. At just 20 years of age, Gauff claimed her first major doubles title after a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win against the Italian duo Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani.
Just hours after the win, American tennis pro Sam Querrey came forward to praise her game, “Coco is a singles player. She’s phenomenal in doubles. I think a lot of the girls would say Coco is the best doubles player,” he said, in a recent episode of ‘The French Connection’ podcast.

Querrey shed light on the consistency Gauff has had with various partners, including a strong run with Jessica Pegula. “It’s awesome to see her win this. They dominated as a team,” he added, drawing analysis from her participation at events like the Indian Wells Masters.
While she’s proved to be strong enough with her doubles expertise, it can also have a positive impact on Gauff’s singles performance, particularly against top rivals like Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka. “I think you know if you win a Grand Slam and doubles it just going to help your confidence on the singles court when she plays Iga or Sabalenka those matches, hopefully she can gain a little confidence from these doubles wins,” Querrey added.
Swiatek recently won the singles title at Roland Garros, along with marking an end to the young American’s journey in the semi-final clash. While her head-to-head score at 12-11 against the Pole is terrible at the moment, the doubles win could possibly lay an impact, helping her mend the numbers in the upcoming matches.

As Gauff continues to excel in doubles, the improved levels of self-assurance may soon translate into more victories on the singles court. While she’s behind Iga Swiatek in the world rankings, all eyes would be on her in this close tussle.
Coco Gauff overtakes Aryna Sabalenka with a hunger for improvement
Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and Coco Gauff defended the top spots for a long time. While the young American sat in the third position during the start of Roland Garros, her improved performance in the clay court major turned out to be productive. Recently, the WTA star surpassed Aryna Sabalenka and therefore took the second position, having just Iga Swaitek above her.

While it was a feat that deserved celebration, Coco Gauff didn’t seem to be satisfied enough. In an interview soon after becoming the world no.2, she expressed the urge for consistent improvement. “I don’t feel like my game is all the way developed yet. I definitely don’t think I’m there yet,” she said, giving out the will to keep working on herself.
Coco Gauff’s performance graph seems to be on the rise. While she still has a notable rival in the form of Iga Swiatek, the urge to keep working on herself seems to be justified.
