The empty stands at the Roland Garros have often disappointed the tennis world. At the French Open, women’s matches have barely been filled with people, especially at the front rows. Recently, the tournament’s official Instagram page uploaded a clip capturing Coco Gauff‘s “winning moment” against Ons Jabeur in the QF. In that post, one of the fans looked quite shocked to see empty stands. He asked, “Why are the stands so empty?!!!” Is it because of the rain, schedules, or something else? Well, Corey Gauff probably has the right answer to this question!

Coco Gauff’s father was present inside the stadium, but not in the player’s box. He was sitting in one of the upper rows as usual, (that’s their thing since the US Open). On hearing this question from that fan, Corey Gauff gave a reply to him in the comments section. He said, “The cheap seats were full.” He tried to tell the fan that the attendance wasn’t as bad as it looked on the screens. Now, what are the exact prices of the seats in the 2024 French Open? According to several reports, fans bought tickets starting from $470 to $2,294 during the first round. For the women’s SFs it’s going to creep up to a range of $1,144-$2,214. It may vary depending on who’s playing the match.

For the Grand Finale in women’s singles, the lowest is expected to be $708 and the most expensive ticket will be $2,639. Women’s tennis has seen its fair share of struggle over the years surrounding the unsold tickets. But with the rise of the rivalry between Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff, women’s tennis has gained quite a lot of popularity among the masses. However, things have looked quite grim in some of the matches in Paris this year. Everyone in the sports world is now worried about how the French crowd going to respond to a mega event like the Olympics which is going to be held at the same venue next month.

Iga Swiatek vs Naomi Osaka was one of the best matches of the year so far! The second-round match had everything to offer except a full house at the iconic Court Philippe Chatrier. Even France’s Alizé Cornet had to play her last singles match of her career in front of a nearly empty stadium. This thing has been a major concern for the tournament organizers over the years. Looking at these empty stands, The Tennis Podcast’s David Law tweeted, “It pisses me off that this place isn’t packed.” However, Coco Gauff’s father has a different reason for not sitting in the player’s box. Do you know why he sits in the upper rows?

“He gets too nervous” – Coco Gauff on Corey Gauff’s absence in her player’s box

Coco Gauff’s father, Corey Gauff used to cheer for her from the player’s box during the early phases of her career. He is an important figure in his daughter’s team. However, fans were quite surprised after not seeing him in the same place during her QF match at the US Open. But later on, Gauff assured her fans saying, “The one thing that’s different is my dad isn’t in the box anymore cause he gets too nervous. So he’s somewhere in one of the suites. And he’s been apparently doing laps around the stadium I heard during the matches.

She later on revealed that her father is “incredibly superstitious” with these things. Coco Gauff admitted that she feels his “good energy” whenever he’s inside the stadium. No matter if she can see him or not, that’s one thing that has provided her an extra bit of energy to give her best during the matches. However, empty stands at Roland Garros are a major concern.
