Earlier today, a new episode of The AO Show podcast dropped, featuring Brad Gilbert. During the conversation, he talked about various topics like his involvement in training Zendaya for The Challengers movie. Further, he also mentioned Gauff’s tremendous rise which was due to some of her peculiar qualities.

He said, “I think that the thing that pleases me most about it? Well, first of all, she comes from such a great family. She’s a great kid. She’s unbelievably hard-working, and she’s humble.”

At just 20, Gauff has gone on to become one of the best in the tennis world. While she has a long way to go in her tennis career, her meteoric rise has been spearheaded by Gilbert himself, who has had a significant influence on her game. Additionally, with the Madrid Open coming up, the American sensation has a golden opportunity to achieve a career-first.

Gauff can achieve her career-best ranking in Madrid

The American sensation is currently the third-best player in the world going into the Madrid Open. However, with Aryna Sabalenka defending her Madrid Open title, a slip-up from her will result in Gauff claiming the second spot on the WTA rankings chart. If she achieves so, Gauff will be a step away from becoming the best in the world.

Further, Sabalenka has to reach at least the semifinals in Madrid to have any hopes of retaining her second position. Meanwhile, Gauff lost in the third round last year and has only a few points to defend. As a result, the time cannot be more right for Gauff to mount the pressure on Sabalenka.

Interestingly, Gauff hasn’t gone past the third round in Madrid. Thus, she’ll be extra motivated this time around to dig deep in the tournament.
