US Open champion Coco Gauff recently highlighted the fresh experience of growing up as a Gen Z black woman compared to her parent’s generation. The 19-year-old shed light on the pivotal impact that social media has been creating on the awareness of racial disparities. She mentioned, “I think it’s very different because with the rise of social media, it’s very hard to turn a blind eye into the differences we have.”

Detailing the impact of social media on the current generation, Gauff shared how the current generation is moving towards celebrating diversity. She added, “I feel like we’re not the generation that’s gonna be colorblind or pretend that racist doesn’t exist.”

Along with talking about the differences, the rising WTA star also reflected on the progress made by her parents’ generation in laying the base for legal equality. “They were like the first generation to grow with complete legal equality and I think my generation is now more so just really uplifting and embracing the changes in peoples cultures and you know when I go on social media and I see like just different food things,” she explained, sharing a positive perspective on the matter.
