Does Sloane Stephens' travel lifestyle make her tennis career more fulfilling than a regular desk job?

The life of a tennis player can be demanding, but with the right mindset, it can also be incredibly rewarding! That’s how Sloane Stephens navigates her hectic schedule and travels. After her surprising exit from the Korea Open, Sloane took a well-deserved break to soak in the rich heritage of Asian countries. Although she pulled out of the China Open ahead of the tournament for undisclosed reasons, she made the most of her time by visiting the historical landmarks of Beijing, much like one of her compatriots who stepped off the court and went about exploring the rich culture of China.

Yes, we are talking about Coco Gauff. Ahead of her China Open match, Gauff also shared moments from her trip on social media, including adorable pictures with her mother, Candi. She humorously remarked that she “rented the Great Wall all to myself,” showcasing her excitement while touring the iconic landmark, capturing stunning views and joyful moments, including running down the slopes and taking selfies in matching outfits with her mom. After visiting the Great Wall, Gauff explored the Forbidden City, where she donned traditional Chinese attire alongside ATP star Carlos Alcaraz.

And it looks like Gauff’s delightful escapades have not only captured fans’ hearts but also inspired Sloane Stephens to reflect on her own journey in tennis. In a recent interview with Tennis Insider Club, Stephens shared her thoughts, saying, “What job is going to pay you to put on your tennis dress and go out there and play a match on live TV? Otherwise, I would just be at home.”  And who better than Coco to embody this sentiment?

After an early exit at the US Open, Gauff had a great time in the Asian swing as she won the China Open title. But as much as that garnered the spotlight, her visit to the Great Wall made headlines as well. This captures the unique thrill of being a professional athlete. Even Stephens believes that it’s one of the perks that come with the job, “This year, I was like I’m going to make it to Asia so I can go to the Great Wall. I’m gonna like make it next year and go to wherever and I feel like that’s helped me more like have something to look forward to,” she said.

Although Stephens didn’t advance as far in the Asian swing as she had hoped, it didn’t dampen her spirits. She had a great time at the Great Wall with her mother, Sybil Smith. The duo got matching keychains as a sweet memento from their trip. They also bought skincare products and tried tasty treats while exploring the city, as she shared on her Instagram post.

“If you were at a job, a regular desk job for 12 years, you’d be like this is so boring. This is terrible. So as a tennis player, yes we’re so lucky and fortunate to be able to travel and do all these amazing things,” Stephens added.
