Coco Gauff has touched many milestones this year and is gearing up for another historic run. She will soon make a debut in the WTA Finals as the youngest professional, since Maria Sharapova who achieved the feat in 2004. Further, Gauff, and her doubles partner, Jessica Pegula, will share a pedestal with the legendary Williams sisters through this tournament.

She is as jolly as ever and recently walked the carpet at the event’s opening ceremony. Also, while doing so, she answered some fun questions. One of which was regarding the football skills of all the WTA Finals contenders. 

Coco Gauff can throw a football really far

The 18-year-old, while speaking to the media alongside, Jessica Pegula, stumbled upon the question of which WTA Finals player could throw an American football the furthest. To which at first a puzzled Pegula replied, “No clue.”

Then, Coco Gauff responded, “I have an answer. I am gonna go with me or Jes.” Thereafter she chuckled and added, “Also, because we are the only two Americans contestant.”

Later, Pegula shared the clip on her Instagram handle and affirmatively wrote, “I am sure that Coco can throw it pretty far.” Pegula and Gauff’s duo has performed really well this season. At first, they reigned in the Qatar Open, and then ended the hard court season with a quarterfinal run in the Indian Wells, and a semifinal run in Miami Open.

Following that, in clay, they executed a quarterfinal run in the WTA 1000 event of Madrid, and made up to the finals of the French Open. Post that their triumph at the Canadian Masters, and San Diego Open, sealed their seats in the WTA Finals. 

What lies ahead for Gauff? 

The 2022 French Open runner-up, is pitied against Caroline Garcia. She will lock horns with the French tennis professional, and Cincinnati Masters champion, on November 2nd. This will be their fourth meeting, and while Garcia will try to settle the score, the World No.4 will eye her third victory and a kick-start in the tournament.

Further speaking of the doubles, Gauff and Pegula will clash with the Chinese duo of Xu Yifan, and Yang Zhaoxuan, in the group stage. The match will be held on WTA Finals Stadium Court on November 1st.
