Coco Gauff has had a turbulent time off late. After the highs of winning the US Open title, Gauff was expected to end her season on a similar high. However, she has had heartbreaking losses at the business end of the tournaments post her major victory. Last month, she bowed out of the China Open in the semifinals. Further, she suffered a similar fate at the ongoing WTA Finals in Mexico. Following her disappointing loss, Gauff has pointed out the reason for her poor performance in a hilarious fashion.

Coco Gauff was up against her compatriot, Jessica Pegula in the clash of the last four in Cancun, Mexico. However, the players were greeted with harsh climatic conditions which the American sensation later pointed out.

The 19-year-old is active on social media and regularly shares updates on platforms such as Instagram. On this occasion, she took to her official Instagram handle to showcase the harsh climatic conditions in Mexico.

Posting a story on her official Instagram handle, Gauff shared a video in which her hitting partner can be seen smashing the ball high and seemingly out of the court. However, due to the strong winds, its pressure prevents the ball from going out and it eventually lands inside the court. Further, she captioned the video, saying, “How windy it is here. Ball that is supposed to go out of the fence.”

The WTA was considering hosting the Finals in Saudi Arabia. However, last-minute changes led to Cancun hosting the tournament despite unfavorable conditions. On the other hand, these conditions came to the aid of Pegula as she made an interesting revelation.

Jessica Pegula contradicts Coco Gauff

While Coco Gauff was troubled by the windy climate, Jessica Pegula felt that the conditions were similar to South Florida and that she had no problems playing in these conditions.

Talking about this, she said, “It feels very familiar. I mean, usually I don’t know if it’s been this windy where I’m playing; you know that much, but we’re definitely familiar with it. Yeah, I think that definitely helps, but I mean, usually, I was saying I haven’t always been good in the wind. I’m actually; I used to be so bad in the wind.”
