Truth be told, I’m a little jealous of Coco Gauff. The American sensation is going crazy at Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, headed by rap artist Tyler the Creator on the Dodger Stadium grounds in Los Angeles. And sadly, I’m missing out. The young talent has made sure to make the most of her offseason after a demanding schedule, but healthy conclusion to her WTA commitments this year. One topped with new hair!

Gauff endured a rough patch in the latter half of the year after a sharp drop in form compromised her title defenses in Cincinnati and the US Open. She later parted ways with ex-coach Brad Gilbert and joined forces with technique correction specialist Matt Daly to address her serving vows. Gladly, it worked in her favor.

The American player restored her athletic prowess and won the China Open. She did one better at the WTA Finals in Riyadh. Gauff became the youngest player in 14 years to lift the year-end championship after outclassing Chinese sensation Qinwen Zheng. With her WTA calendar done for, Gauff is partying in the annual music festival’s moshpit.

Days after Tyler the Creator revealed the highly anticipated lineup for the 10th iteration of his event, including artists like Playboi Carti and Sexyy Red, and, debuted his seventh studio album ‘CHROMAKOPIA’, the American found it prudent to attend the festival in style and also, listen to the ‘Igor’ hitmaker reference her in one of his tracks from his latest project called ‘Thought I was dead’.

Notably, the artist gave a lyric shoutout to her saying, “You ain’t Coco Gauff, you can’t serve me”. Surprised by the mention – after her boyfriend called out the mention weeks before it dropped – Gauff expressed her gratitude on social media: “Waking up to my name being mentioned in a Tyler song… Absolutely insane. Thank you!”.

Taking to her Instagram, Gauff uploaded a string of stories where she flaunted her ‘chic makeover’ and new hair before she attended the event with her boyfriend, Jalen Sera. The American player wore a pair of black sunglasses and rocked an orange fleece pullover. “Off szn = new hairrr,” she posted on her Instagram story. While she proceeded to upload wild crowd moments attending the concert, the young talent also tagged the rapper after listening to him sing her shoutout lyric live on stage for the first time.

While talking to the media, Gauff acknowledged the noteworthy feat and said: “This means a lot to me. This is the first professional women’s tennis event here in Saudi Arabia and I’ll forever be etched in history in that standard.” Before commenting on her jaw-dropping earnings in Riyadh, Guaff told Sky Sports that it “was a great match. I was just trying my best to hang in there and I never gave up.”

Gauff is notably one of only two players in the WTA top 100 whose 2023 year-end ranking matches their 2024 ranking finish. After briefly dipping out of the Top 5, Gauff is back up to No.3. After recouping and enjoying her offseason, the young talent will likely take to the court at the Australian hardcourt swing in 2025.
