Does Coco Gauff's faith give her an edge on the court? What do you think?

Rocking the Olympic rings as a pendant, Coco Gauff has made a heartfelt admission at the US Open. And before you guess it, no, it does not pertain to her on-court commitments. Instead, it’s something much more intriguing, something that will surely win the hearts of fans. Just a hint, the young talent showcased her spiritual side this time.

At the Flushing Meadows event, the American pro is working to the bone in hopes of keeping her title defense alive. So much so, that Gauff has successfully reached the fourth round, having outfoxed Ukrainian Elina Svitolina in a thriller three-set comeback victory at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Later, the 20-year-old sat down for a post-match presser, wherein she opened up about her religious faith and the devout practices she adheres to.

While reflecting on her inner side, the No. 3 seed briefly highlighted that the emotional aspects of every disheartening loss matter to her. Citing her deeply pious side, Gauff stated that she regularly reads the ‘Bible’ and reverently practices scripting down her feelings to compartmentalize them and channel them in a spiritual direction for better insight.

She said, “I have two journals, I read the bible every day. Then I have a personal one where I just write usually the night before I play. It’s something I’ve always done but just do it more frequently because it holds you accountable for your feelings and your thoughts. Every match I’ve been going in, I just don’t want to leave with any regret. There are matches where you lose and you’re like ‘I mentally wasn’t here’ and that’s completely fine, those are things you can’t control at the moment. But, for a more emotional and mental approach, I don’t want to have any regrets.”

he American has previously hailed Jesus for her triumphs as well. Notably, after lifting the Cincinnati Masters trophy last year, Gauff iterated her faith during the award ceremony saying, “I’d like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It’s been a lot of nights alone crying trying to figure it out. And you know, I still have a lot to figure out. But you know, I thank Him for covering me.”
