While lifting the Western and Southern Open title for the first time was an emotional moment for her, her post-victory speech was even more emotional. The world’s 7th-ranked tennis player honored her mother and her father in a heartwarming speech, dedicating the Cincinnati victory to them.
A clip of her post-match speech was posted on Twitter by the Tennis Letter. She said, “The biggest thank you to my parents. My mom, I love you so much for being my emotional support. My dad.. he’s the reason I’m here. The reason I play tennis. He’s the reason I believe I can do this.”
The 19-year-old American tennis star called her mother a pillar of strength and credited her father for the real reason why she picked up a tennis racket when she was young. Further, she also appreciated her father’s influence on her and also hilariously reminisced about an incident, thanking him for providing her with the scouting report throughout the week.
Nevertheless, the 2023 Cincinnati champion is quite open about her parent’s contribution to her tennis career. Her parents recognized her potential from a young age and made significant sacrifices to support her dream by making major changes in their lifestyles. Similarly, after her Washington victory, she showed her doting daughter’s side by taking her mother out on a gratitude-filled brunch.
