The 19-year-old champion has been on fire since her Citi Open win and is extending her winning streak to the China Open. The Americans lost to Brazil duo Ingrid Gamarra Martins and Lusia Stefani.

Had the American duo won, they would have proceeded to the quarter-finals. But the Brazil duo fled from qualifiers and stunned America’s top seeds. Gauff lost to unseeded players with Pegula, and this caused a stir in social media. The six-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist played the doubles match soon after she lost her singles to Jelena Ostapenko. So, the teen icon’s fans turned their blame game towards Pegula. Netizens also urged Gauff to change her partner as the 3 singles titles winner as she was labeled a burden and lousy luck for Gauff.

A fan declared that Pegula is worse and wrote, “Gauff needs to find a new doubles partner. Pegula STINKS.”

Another fan mocked Pegula for losing two matches within hours. She wrote, “pegula collecting to two Ls in one day.”?

A tennis enthusiast urged the teen star to leave her BFF as he wrote, “Coco, we need to let go Pegula in doubles.”

Another fan slammed the 8 doubles titles winner for spoiling Gauff’s wins. He wrote, “I didn’t even see the game to know its Pegula yet again… she always messes up their matches and I don’t understand why Coco is staying loyal…”

Irrespective of the fans’ harsh jibes, Gauff and Pegula hardly share bad blood. The Grand Slam champion’s coach confirmed the depth of their relationship and revealed the impact of doubles tennis on her glory. The Spanish coach also shared the World No.4’s effect on the teen sensation and how it helped Gauff rise in singles.

The teenage sensation’s coach clarified the effect of Jessica Pegula on Gauff

In an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, Gauff’s coach, Pere Riba, was asked how playing with Pegula helped her nurture her game.
