However, Gauff dismissed the claim of taking any inspiration from Williams‘ iconic outfit for her latest Wimbledon look.
“No she did not but I think that Serena has just done like every iconic dress fit in the game that unintentionally you can have something inspired by her. It was like similar to my Australian Open outfit this year some people thought I was inspired by her which it wasn’t but I just feel like Serena is just such an icon that everybody can have like inspiration for her like she’s the original so yeah I take it as an acknowledgement”- said Gauff in a post-victory press conference.

The 20-year-old American WTA star’s Australian Open outfit also garnered attention for its similarity to Serena Williams’ dress. Gauff’s yellow skirt and top with navy accents not only stunned fans, but one person even posted a tweet containing fake statements attributed to the Roland Garros doubles champion. Clarifying the misconception, Gauff said, “Yeah, if you want to make it a homage to her [Serena Williams], that’s really cool. That wasn’t the thought process behind it.
