At just 20 years of age, Coco Gauff is making quite an impact in the tennis world. Although her 2024 season has been a mixed bag, she still clinched a couple of titles, including the China Open and ASB Classic in singles. Gauff might not have exceeded the expectations but she is still happy and it perfectly encapsulates who Coco is. She’s down-to-earth and easygoing, making her a fan favorite. But it’s her maturity, when faced with obstacles, that stands out the most. Especially for someone so young, Gauff has shown responsibility and grace as she navigates the pressures of professional tennis.
During the WTA Finals, Tennis Channel asked the players about their ideal getaway. While Aryna Sabalenka and Qinwen Zheng envisioned serene beach escapes, Gauff’s response was refreshingly simple. “I just moved into my own house, so probably my bedroom there,” she said, adding that it could be any bed as long as the room is dark and “my phone charged.” This may sound dull to some, but for a player constantly on the road, it represents a much-needed slice of tranquility amid a hectic schedule.

Even Iga Swaitek, who was defeated by Gauff in the first round of the WTA Finals, had a similar response to the question. The Polish player would rather be in bed in Warsaw, “in my bed, watching a TV show.”
Talking about Gauff’s campaign in the WTA Finals, she faced Barbora Krejcikova, after defeating Swiatek and Jessica Pegula in her earlier matches, but against the odds, she lost by 7-5, 6-4. Despite this setback though, Gauff remains focused ahead of the semifinals.
Coco’s maturity is striking for someone her age. In an interview in April, she shared with Time Magazine, “I just think I was at a maturity level different from the kids around me. No one has their life figured out at 15. But I, for the most part, did.”

Gauff’s achievements, from winning a Grand Slam at the 2023 US Open and now buying her own home at such a young age, speak volumes about her character and determination. Now as a homeowner, the 20-year-old embraces this new chapter with grace.
Gauff and her new challenges as an adult outside of the WTA spotlight
Coco Gauff has navigated a remarkable journey in her young life, moving from Atlanta to Delray Beach for better training opportunities. Her parents have been integral to her success. In late February, Gauff announced her plans to buy her first home, sharing her mixed feelings about leaving her parents’ nest. Now that she’s officially moved out, she’s opened up about the challenges of adulting and shared a celebratory post on her Instagram story last month, captioned “Cheers to being a homeowner at 20. All glory to God.”

However, living alone comes with new responsibilities. During a chat with National News about her new living situation, Gauff claims that she looks forward to doing things by herself. Like learning to cook which she never had to do alongside her parents. She admitted, “It’s been something that I’ve been experimenting with, and had some mostly successes, some failures.”
Despite the challenges, Gauff feels grateful for her upbringing and the support of her parents. They helped her mature without losing touch with her childhood. Now as she heads into the semi-finals of the WTA Finals against Aryna Sabalenka, will the young star handle the pressure of facing the World No.1? Only time will tell!
