Coco Gauff just shut down her critics—Is she the future of American tennis?

Dreams do come true with sheer hard work and determination! Coco Gauff is a prime example of that. Just imagine how successfully she has climbed up the stairs from dancing in the stands as a kid to becoming a US Open champion. What a journey this has been for this 20-year-old American tennis star! Recently, she put a short video clip on her TikTok account, portraying that same inspiring journey with her fans.

She shared three pictures of her in that video. In the first, one she was holding the US Open title. Then we saw her entering the courts in the second, but the third was the most beloved one for all the fans. In that third picture, we saw a glimpse of an 8-year-old kid with millions of dreams in her eyes, dancing to the tunes of ‘Call Me Maybe’ at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Gauf captioned that post, “Yes, I know I’m blessed…but sometimes…I wish I could go back.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Gauff admit how blessed she is to witness all these triumphs at such a young age. Shortly after winning the US Open in 2023, we heard her say, “I think just I feel accomplished with what I wanted to do.” She, later on, claimed, “I don’t pray for results, I just ask that I get the strength to give it my all and whatever happens happens. I’m so blessed in this life. So I’m just thankful for this moment.

We know how tough it was for her to digest her loss at the 2022 French Open final, but she never gave up. This win at the 2023 US Open made her realize that “God puts you through trials.” Gauff said that she always spends some time with her dad doing prayers before every match right from a young age. We saw her pray even after winning the US Open title. What does Gauff usually seek for in her prayers?

Coco Gauff doesn’t really pray about victories

Coco Gauff is known for her Christian faith. Last year during the Cincinnati Masters she gave an interview in which she thanked her Lord for helping her in her journey. “It’s been a lot of nights alone crying trying to figure it out. And you know, I still have a lot to figure out. But you know, I thank him for covering me,” said Gauff. She always wanted to win a Grand Slam title right from a young age. However, she revealed later on that, “We don’t really pray about victory, just that me and my opponent stay safe. After the match, I was just thanking God for this opportunity.”

Have an interesting take?

Her faith helps her stay focused on her goals, and achieving so many goals at the age of 20 made her feel blessed time and again. Even this year, while sharing a post on her birthday, she wrote, “I’ve been beyond blessed in this life and I am so thankful to have made it this far.” Did Gauff ever think that she’d come this far at 20?

During an earlier interview when Gauff was shown the video clip of her dancing to the tunes of ‘Call Me Maybe’ inside the Arthur Ashe Stadium and asked what message would she love to give that girl. In reply, Gauff said, “She had the dream, but I don’t know if she fully believed it.” She said as a kid we often have too many dreams which can fiddle away with age, but her advice to all the youngsters would be, “Don’t lose that dream.” Gauff wants everyone to keep having fun and working hard. Never, ever, stop believing in yourself!
