On the ‘The Deal with Alex Rodriguez & Jason Kelly’ show, Sharpova said, “the names and the characters and the athletes that are coming out from this new generation are spectacular, and they’re going to lead the sport.”

Sharapova then added, “And that’s what, that’s what excites me,” alluding to the younger generation of players like Gauff and Alacarz. She addressed the extremely demanding nature of the tournaments, along with strenuous schedules that take a toll on the quality of the play of different players.

“The schedule in the system is still slightly broken. There’s so much going on the season is 10 months out of the year, there’s several different Federation’s involved there, the Grand Slams that are not connected to the rest of the tour, there’s inequality. I mean, we could spend a whole another hour on the state of where the game is,” she said in the podcast.

While mentioning Coco Gauff, Maria Sharapova had previously talked about the spectacular energy of the younger generation. She believes that the likes of Gauff can overcome the various obstacles thrown at them.

I’ve enjoyed watching a new generation rise to the occasion. I was very impressed with how Coco handled the US Open win in New York last year.”, Maria Sharapova said during the interview.
